Post Terrible mood swings
I've been looking back through old post in the forum and can't seem to pick out if there is any certain time frame that any of your LO's cycle down or how often. It use to be that John was good for atleast 2 months. Now I notice that it seems every 2 to 3 weeks, the mood changes. Goes from being happy and cooperative to very nasty and arguementive. during this period he has no interest in TV, just sorts through his sock drawer also during this time has problems with the toilet, going on the floor and then insisting that the toilet leaks. No meds have been changed.

Was he ever diagnosed as being bi-polar before the LBD? Is it possible he is bi-polar, given your reference to "cycling"? If that's a possibility, talk to his psychiatrist about trying/adding a med specifically for that. Jerome is on trileptal (oxcarbazepine) for bi-polar disorder and it has been a miracle drug with respect to cycling, without interfering with any of his dementia meds.

Thanks for your reply. I just hate putting another drug into the mix, though I will put a call into his gerintologist and see what he says. Its just amazing how his bad cycles are coming more frequently, who knows maybe it has something to do with the full moon. Its only a guessing game anymore.

I believe that these cycles are common with LBD. My father will go for 3 or 4 days when he is cooperative and lucid following by three days from hell. I can almost tell now when they will change just by his sleep habits or daytime moods. When he is calm during the day, he will sleep through the night. When he is agitated during the day, I know we are in for a night from hell. The good and bad days used to be spaced apart more, they are getting closer together. I think that is what happens when the disease progresses. We have tried different meds as well and they work for a while and then loose their effectiveness.
